About Capital Home Inspection

Stephen Clayton is well known in the Ottawa area – as a multi-award winning builder with 2 decades of experience – also as a highly qualified, knowledgeable, full-time home inspector who has done more than 6,000 inspections in the past 21 years.

Highly Qualified…Highly Trained

Stephen has been a Registered Home Inspector (RHI) with the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors (OAHI) for the past 21 years. Twice he was honoured by the Ottawa Carleton Home Builders Association for “Best Custom House over 3,000 Square Feet”; another year his company won “Best Infill Heritage Award”.

Highly Regarded…Highly Recommended

More than 95% of Stephen’s inspections come from referrals and repeat clients. His customers appreciate the expertise and the thoroughness that he brings to the inspection; they also appreciate how clearly he is able to explain the issues as well as the workings of the house. Easy-to-Read, Easy-to-Understand Inspection Reports

Capital Home Inspection uses the web-based reporting system, HORIZON which is generally acknowledged to be the gold standard for inspection reports. The report includes a description of the property, Stephen’s professional observations and recommendations as well as colour photographs, illustrations, diagrams and links to related reference materials.

The Inspection: Helping the Buyer make a More Informed Buying Decision

The purpose of the inspection is to determine the present overall condition of the home – inspecting for possible problems, deficiencies or areas of concern. Any significant issues which could affect the buying decision are identified and prioritized.

The visual inspection covers the readily accessible major systems of the house including the Roof, Exterior, Structure, Electrical, Heating, Cooling, Plumbing, Insulation and Interior. A typical home inspection takes approximately 2 to 2 ½ hours. Older or larger homes may take longer. Clients are encouraged to attend the inspection.

Capital Home Inspection – in business since 1994.

In addition to his background in construction and inspecting homes, Stephen also has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA). At Capital Home, we take a great deal of pride in our commitment to customer satisfaction.
